Background & philosophy

Why we exist.

The School of Politics, Policy, and Governance is an unconventional school designed to attract, develop and produce a new generation of political leaders who will listen and serve the new class of citizens who know their rights.

Founded in 2021, SPPG has already graduated four cohorts of competent leaders, many of whom are actively shaping the country's political and governance landscape.

SPPG emerged in recognition of the dismal performance of public leadership in Africa: despite its wealth of natural and human resources, the continent continues to lag behind other regions on most measurable indicators of human and economic development. Central to this underperformance is politics, specifically a culture of leadership that subverts the public good by elevating personal and parochial interests above the collective wellbeing of citizens. SPPG is integral to the #FixPolitics mission: to elevate the Office of the Citizen to its rightful place, and to develop a political class of servant leaders.

A new political order

From research in Berlin to classrooms across Africa.

The absence of good governance is the greatest obstacle to Africa's economic development.

The School of Politics, Policy & Governance was a product of research at the Robert Bosch Academy. In 2019, Dr Obiageli "Oby" Ezekwesili invited leading intellectuals to Berlin to discuss how Africa could establish a new political order. #FixPolitics recognises that a vast majority of African countries share the same developmental obstacles, and that whether it is 2020 or 2060, nothing about Africa changes without a transformation of its politics.
